Episode 7

The Dos & Don’ts of Cultural Appropriation

Description

Cultural appropriation is everywhere, but is it always wrong? What are the dos and don’ts of cultural appropriation? In episode 7, we discuss how borrowing from other cultures may have become inevitable as our world becomes more globalized, but educating ourselves is necessary to do it respectfully. For this week’s Brown Sugar conversation, we are conversing with three very diverse women, who are making a statement as they discuss their experiences with cultural appropriation and appreciation. The Brown Sugar rush from this conversation is at an all time high so be on the lookout for a Part II to this conversation.

Testimonials

“I love the diversity of the guests of the 7th episode. It allowed us to educate ourselves on so many levels and understand better the different perspectives on cultural appropriation and appreciation. I love the examples that were given as well, I recommend anyone to watch this episode once it’s out! “

The Brown Sugar Talk episodes have been so well navigated. Amy offers the insight of guests who are truly fitting to the episodes topic. A dynamic on the panelists table comes as Amy selects guests with different backgrounds: whether it be generational or residential (guest speakers living within the US). Each episode, I see this platform evolve.

Thank you Amy and to all the guests, for allowing us into your discussions and into such personal stories.”
