S2 Ep4

Teaching Anti-Racism to the Next Generation

Description

Did you know that racism is explicitly or implicitly ingrained in all of us? Teaching others not to “see color” is actually harmful. Social media has allowed us to witness different acts of systemic racism, especially this past year, and had us thinking about the next generation, more specifically how to raise kids to better understand and dismantle racism. Indeed, kids are a mirror and a reflection of their parents, their communities, their friends, and so many more external factors.

For this 5th episode, Brown Sugar Talk invited three experts in childhood education, Julie, Cyntia, and Ashley, to discuss what it means to raise anti-racist children.

From practical approaches, sharing personal & professional experiences, and addressing system failure, these three women will leave you with lots of notes 😉.

Testimonial

I cannot recommend Brown Sugar Talk enough. Amy has created a space that is safe, open, productive, informative, humbling, mind-blowing and all-around inspiring.

She chooses relevant topics, brings in top-tier guests and runs the entire hour+ with brilliant questions designed to provoke conversation and education. If you’re not listening, you need to be. I 1000% recommend this incredible woman and the beautiful space she has created.

Amy, I’d like to first thank the three beautiful and diverse range of women that shared their experiences. I’m so glad they were able to share their stories and remind me that single women, especially single coloured women,  are all facing difficulties trying to date during a pandemic. We tend to forget that most of our problems/ predicaments are universal -and I was so happy to hear that I’m not alone on this matter. It’s important in society to have these conversations and extremely important now, as we are all faced with some form of isolation. The more we discuss, the more we understand one another -which ultimately helps mediate or find a potential solution. Thank you, this was an amazing episode!
