S2 Ep2

BIPOC Women Dating in the Digital Age

Description

Valentines’ Day hit differently this year 🥴! The chance of meeting someone in person this past year or even having a Valentine for those who are single can seem impossible… BIPOC women already had to navigate racial fetishism while searching for a romantic partner, but with a pandemic going on and on, they now had no choice but to turn to virtual dating when the usual ways of meeting people have vanished.

In this spicy and sweet conversation, I invited three BIPOC women to explore how relationship formation and romance play out in the digital space as a lens to understand racial discrimination. From the challenges of dating during a pandemic to the impact of unconscious bias, we covered it all!

Testimonial

Amy, I’d like to first thank the three beautiful and diverse range of women that shared their experiences. I’m so glad they were able to share their stories and remind me that single women, especially single coloured women,  are all facing difficulties trying to date during a pandemic. We tend to forget that most of our problems/ predicaments are universal -and I was so happy to hear that I’m not alone on this matter. It’s important in society to have these conversations and extremely important now, as we are all faced with some form of isolation. The more we discuss, the more we understand one another -which ultimately helps mediate or find a potential solution. Thank you, this was an amazing episode!
