S2 Ep1

Recognizing Black History Month

Description

Brown Sugar Talk is excited to start the 2nd Season by discussing an important event happening this beautiful month of February: Black History Month โœŠ๐Ÿพ.

Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States, Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora, recognizing their contributions and achievements. It’s now also an opportunity for people to learn more about the effects of racism and how to challenge negative stereotypes.

For this conversation, I am thrilled to have Brittany J. Harris, Yvonne Odonkor, and Cam Litchmore sharing their knowledge and insights with us. We covered why it’s so important to celebrate Blackness in all its form, the connection with what is happening around us today, the dos and don’ts of planning for Black History Month, and more. You don’t want to miss it ๐Ÿ˜‰!

I participated in this conversation to learn about ways to celebrate Black History Month.ย  The panelists were interesting and engaging and I walked away with practical ideas to spotlight and raise up our black staff in ways I would not have thought of prior.ย  Great insight from the panel โ€“ thank you for the opportunity to participate!
